Gabrielle was born as Louisa Gabriella Bobb on 19 July 1969, in Hackney, London. She is a British singer and songwriter whose powerful voice and distinctive sound have made her a beloved musical figure. Gabrielle became the face of the EMMA ad campaign in 2000 and didn’t take any payment, she supported EMMA’s cause and campaign to promote social cohesion within society. She also appreciated the need for this in the ever powerful creative industries.
Raised in a working-class household, Gabrielle was introduced to music by her mother, who deeply loved soul, reggae, and Motown. Gabrielle’s early interest in music led her to pursue singing and songwriting, and she was influenced by artists like Aretha Franklin, Nina Simone, and Stevie Wonder.
Gabrielle began performing in local clubs and bars, eventually leading to a record deal with Go! Discs in 1991. Her breakthrough came in 1993 with the release of her debut single “Dreams,” which became an instant hit, topping the UK Singles Chart and earning her widespread recognition.
